Classes

We run classes in small, extra warm pools that are ideal for even our youngest swimmers. Classes run throughout the week in the St Just and Penzance areas. Times will vary depending on the age of your baby – please contact us for current availability.

Babies are welcome to attend our classes as soon as their umbilicals have healed and if mums are bringing baby they should wait until their postpartum bleeding has stopped, generally around 6 weeks.

We run swimming classes from newborn up to pre-school age but classes will depend on their stage of development and their previous experience in the water.

Classes are arranged in terms of usually around 10 to 12 weeks.

For each term that you attend with your baby, you will observe a progression in their confidence (and yours) as well as the development of skills which will eventually lead to independent swimming.

It is normal for babies to ‘plateau’ in their progression at different points along their journey towards swimming.

Sometimes babies even appear to regress when they are going through particularly clingy or cautious stages, and may become reluctant to leave the safety of your arms or the shallows.

The most important thing to remember is to remain consistent at these times, continuing to approach your time in the water in a relaxed and fun way.

Although this may be frustrating for you, be assured that with your support and gentle encouragement, your baby will emerge from these times and often surprise you with their next feats in the water!

"When we went on holiday to visit our family in South Africa with our first child, Samuel, his grandparents were shocked at how he was able to 'almost swim' at the age of only 18 months! Thank you so much for your dedication, positive and passionate attitude, and professionalism during class!"

"I really wish Baby Aquatics had been around when my two eldest sons were little! My 17 month old loves the water so much now and his confidence grows every week."
